PRC Maritime Code Revision: What Freight Forwarders Need to Know
Time:2026-10-23 16:21:55 From:HiHonor

On October 13, 2026, Ms. Li Wenjuan, Partner at our firm, was invited by the Through Transport Club (TT Club) to deliver a specialized online training session on the impact of the revised PRC Maritime Code on freight forwarding enterprises. The session focused on the Carriage of Goods by Sea chapter and drew over 500 registrants from TT Club's Asian offices, freight forwarders, NVOCC operators, and shipping trade professionals across the region.

Seven Key Risk Areas, Practical Solutions

Rather than a purely doctrinal lecture, Ms. Li took a risk-based approach. Drawing on 15 years of practice and a wealth of cases handled by her team, she guided participants through seven critical areas of exposure under the revised Code:

· Heightened carrier obligations

· New shipper duties and strict liability

· Electronic transport records

· Undelivered cargo at destination

· Boundaries of lien rights

· Right of stoppage in transit

· Governing law & Time bar issue etc.

For each topic, Ms. Li paired a clear explanation of the legal change with concrete, actionable guidance — covering preventive contract drafting and post-dispute response tactics. The session received strong positive feedback from TT Club and participating members.

A Critical Window for Compliance

The revised PRC Maritime Code has been in effect for less than six months. Interpretative uncertainties remain across several key provisions, making this a pivotal moment for freight forwarders to review their contracts, operational procedures, and risk allocation mechanisms.

Our firm is actively supporting shipping and trading enterprises through this transition with:

· Bill of lading and transport document review

· Freight forwarding agreement drafting and revision

· Customized in-house compliance training

We thank TT Club for the opportunity to share insights with the members, shall remain committed to delivering high-quality legal services to the clients.
